Then again, it's just a story.

My last Mind Mint, “You choose the story,” elicited a lot of positive reactions. It seems like anytime I remind people that they have the power to shape the way they think about and tell their story, it strikes a chord.

It’s gratifying to help people embrace a great and true personal narrative. But even when you find that story, it’s important to remember that it’s just a story...a tool for efficiently summarizing and conveying something about yourself. Your story is not who you are.

By all means, be deliberate in how you construct and share your narrative. But don’t confuse yourself with your story. Because no story or set of stories can convey the depth, complexity, and beauty that is you!

This post was inspired by the Waking Up meditation course from Sam Harris, the clearest, most accessible approach to meditation that I’ve found (and I’ve tried a bunch of them, starting with TM when I was 17!) Use this code for a 28-day trial – it’s a paid subscription after that. There’s no referral bonus for me, I’m just sharing something that I’m finding useful.
